Surroundings
Chateau
Julie is situated north of the Bordeaux region in the midst of the
largest wine regions in the world. To the east of Julie lies the
elegant Pomerol, which is adjoined by Saint-Emilion. After a short
drive to the west, you can take the ferry in Blaye to the Medoc,
Margeaux, Haut-Medoc and other regions on the west bank of the Gironde.
But
also for non-wine tasters there is much to see in the immediate
surroundings, such as the beautiful city of Bordeaux. Due to its
strategic location on the rivers, this city amassed enormous riches in
the past. The trade with England also contributed to this. These riches
can be seen in the grand architecture of the city, along with Moorish
and Arabian influences. Furthermore, there are museums and a very
enjoyable and elegant shopping area. The city is easily accessible
thanks to the tramway, which was built several years ago.
The
many mediaeval villages and towns in the region are also very inviting
to visit. After every turn in the road, lies a new surprise, for
example the old town of Sainte with its music festival and
Saint-Emilion with its monasteries and churches.
In the
immediate vicinity of the Chateau there are seven large golf courses.
If you want to play golf, book an arrangement at Chateau Julie and we
shall see to it that you will enjoy a game at one of these beautiful
golf courses.
In addition, a visit to the dunes along the coast
is certainly to be recommended. It is an area with the highest dunes in
Europe. It features many nature reserves and vast forests surrounded by
large lakes. Arcachon, with its large oyster farms, is located here.
Treat yourself to a delicious oyster meal with Sancerre wine!
In
short, there is something for everyone. Do not hesitate to spend a week
in this special region of France. We should be pleased to advise you
and, if you so desire, also organise complete trips for you. For this,
see to the arrangements page.
